America’s 250th Commemorative Town Crier Bell
$495.00
Tracing back to medieval Europe and centuries of public bell-ringing traditions, town crier bells signaled the beginning of public announcements and gatherings. As towns and civic life developed, town criers became essential messengers, using bells to share news, laws, celebrations, and public notices in an era when many relied on spoken communication. The tradition later carried into colonial America, where bells remained lasting symbols of freedom.
To mark the celebration of America’s Semiquincentennial anniversary, Malmark Bells, Inc. is proud to present a commemorative Town Crier Bell inspired by that enduring tradition. Reflecting the bells once carried by colonial town criers, the piece honors the historic connection between communication and craftsmanship. Creating a Town Crier Bell for the nation’s 250th anniversary was a natural opportunity for Malmark to recognize the historic role bells have played in gathering communities and marking moments of importance throughout American history.
Handcrafted in Plumsteadville, Bucks County, PA, a region closely tied to America’s beginnings, the bell reflects Malmark’s enduring commitment to quality craftsmanship. For more than 50 years, Malmark has produced finely crafted musically-tuned bronze handbells used by churches, schools, organizations and professional musicians around the globe.
Each Town Crier Bell is individually cast of bronze – 80% copper and 20% tin and designed to serve as both a functional instrument and commemorative piece. Every detail is shaped by hand from the individually engraved and hand-finished casting to the separately smithed clapper, carefully fitted for clarity and resonance. Completing the piece is a solid wood handle, carved in-house, giving every bell its own distinct character and craftsmanship.
As part of the inaugural First Edition release, only fifty bells have been produced in this numbered series, each individually engraved from No. 1–50. Created for collectors, history enthusiasts, and those who value enduring American craftsmanship, the Town Crier Bell stands as both a functional instrument and a lasting tribute to America’s 250th anniversary.
